Quaint, peaceful havens scattered along the forester’s paths
Originally built for loggers in need of shelter; these huts scattered along the forester’s paths, have become an authentic meeting place for family and friends.
Some of the huts have names that will take you on a journey: La Marocaine, La Turque or L’Hôtel d’Italie. Others give environmental references: La Racine (roots), Les Fougères (ferns) or L’Ecorce (tree bark).
There are more than a hundred forester’s huts spread out on both sides of the Vallée de Joux; on the slopes of Mont-Tendre as well as in the Risoud forest.
These structures are particularly appreciated by the Combiers (name given to the inhabitants of the Vallée de Joux) who enjoy getting together with friends for an informal dinner or endless card games. Most of the forester’s huts are open to the public and available to anyone in search of an authentic little haven.
The forester’s refuges also provide important landmarks that can be particularly useful to hikers facing the immensity of the rolling hills of the Risoud forest.
